The 2024 Australian Silver Kookaburra carries two firsts in its 35-year series history: the first appearance of King Charles III on the obverse, and a special “P125” mint mark on the reverse commemorating the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. Both distinctions are one-year-only, making this issue a natural standout within one of the world’s longest-running silver bullion coin programs. Every coin contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and is limited to a maximum mintage of 500,000 coins.

The reverse presents one of the most dynamic Kookaburra designs in the series’ history. Designed by Sean Rogers, the bird is shown in full mid-flight, wings spread wide and each primary feather individually struck, bearing a snake in its talons as it sweeps over a rocky gorge below. The Kookaburra’s compact, powerful body and distinctive large bill are rendered with fine textural contrast — the breast and head feathers closely detailed against the smoother wing surfaces. The gorge in the lower field provides depth and a sense of height. The inscription “KOOKABURRA” curves prominently along the upper rim in large block type, with “2024 · 1OZ · 9999 SILVER” along the lower left and the “P125” commemorative mint mark at lower right — the only Kookaburra to carry this anniversary designation. A micro-laser engraved security letter is embedded in the design, visible only under a magnifying glass. Designer initials “SR” appear at the lower left of the field. The obverse introduces Dan Thorne’s portrait of King Charles III — the first official Commonwealth effigy of the new monarch, facing left in uncrowned profile against a plain field. The inscription “CHARLES III · AUSTRALIA” arcs around the top, with “1 DOLLAR” at the base.
Each coin arrives in a Perth Mint protective acrylic capsule. Multiples of 20 are packaged in sealed rolls. The coin is IRA-eligible, meeting the IRS minimum .999 fineness standard, and carries the full weight and purity guarantee of the Australian government.
As the 35th annual Kookaburra issue, the first to feature King Charles III, and the only one bearing the P125 anniversary mint mark, the 2024 edition occupies a singular position in the series. Add it to your cart today.
