The obverse side of this coin features a bird’s eye view map of the Pyramids of Giza in high detail. At the bottom right is a small portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This is Ian Rank-Broadley’s design he created in 1998. The image shows the queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara which was given to her as a gift at her wedding to Prince Philip. It is her favorite diadem. Above her head to the left is ‘ELIZABETH II’. To the right above her head is ‘COOK ISLANDS’.

The reverse side of the coin has a highly detailed portrait of three pharaohs, Akhenaten, Thutmosis III, and Sobekneferu. Behind them are hieroglyphics. Written above the pharaohs is ‘LEGACY OF THE PHARAOHS’.

The pharaohs of Egypt were believed to be an intermediary between the deities and the people. They ruled as a combination of a religious leader and a monarch. The pharaoh had a lot of responsibility from making laws, collecting taxes, defending Egypt from attackers, to maintaining cosmic power. As a testimony to their greatness, the pharaohs built pyramids. The most famous of the pyramids would have to be the Pyramids of Giza, a popular tourist destination for millions today.
