From the Franklin Mint comes the Panama 20 Balboas Silver Coin in .925 silver. These coins come in either Almost Uncirculated (AU), Brilliant Uncirculated (BU), or Proof (PF) condition. The condition of the coin you received is determined by the stock on hand. These coins are dated between 1971-1979. The coin you receive depends on the stock on hand.  The design you receive on the coin depends on the year of issue.

Key features:

  • Made of .925 fine silver
  • Conditions vary from AU/BU or PF depending on stock on hand
  • Face value of 20 Balboas backed by the Panama government
  • Obverse side of the coin has a design depending on the year of issue
  • Reverse side of the coin has the Coat of Arms of Panama

Balboa is central to the history of Panama as he is the Spanish conquistador that discovered Panama on his way to finding the Pacific Ocean. To honor this explorer, the Franklin Mint added Balboa’s face to the obverse of many of the Balboa coins. Later they added Simon Bolivar, the President of Panama on the Obverse side. The design on this side depends on the year of issue.

On the reverse side of the coin is the Coat of Arms of Panama. This Coat of Arms is held up by a heraldic eagle and has flags around it. In the eagle’s beak is a ribbon that has the Latin phrase, ‘PROMUNDI BENEFICO’ which means “FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE WORLD’. Above the eagle are nine stars. Around the coin is ‘REPUBLICA  DE PANAMA’. At the bottom of the coin is ‘20 BALBOAS’.
