The coin’s reverse side has the iconic sugar maple design. This design is very realistic with a lot of detail. The sugar maple leaf is an emblem that is featured all over Canada. It has become an icon for Canada used on their flag, their military, and even their money. The sugar maple leaf is of historical significance. The aboriginal people used the trees as an important food source while the European settlers discovered it made a convenient way to produce sugar. ‘Canada’ is above the leaf and ‘9999’, a reference to the purity, is to the right and left of the leaf. Below the leaf is ‘FINE SILVER’ and ‘1 OZ ARGENT PUR’.

The Royal Canadian Mint is widely regarded as experts in making great coins. You only have to see the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin and it’s intricate design and luster to know that they do incredible work. The mint was founded in 1908 but it wasn’t until they added their own refinery in 1911 that they had full control over the entire coin minting process. They now could make premium quality coins. By 1969 they were making .999 fine gold bars. In 1982 they showed what they really could do by producing a .9999 fine gold bullion coin, the first in the world. They later set a record for producing a 99.9999% fine gold 100kg coin worth one million dollars. They now make high quality coins of all different metals.
