In 1989 the Austrian Mint introduced this 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic coin as the first coin in the series. That same year they also offered a ¼ oz version. Over the years the series expanded as the coin proved to be very popular. It is now available 1/10 oz, ½ oz. and 1/25th oz. On the obverse side is the organ that sits inside the Musikverein. This fantastic icon of Vienna is actually the second organ with the original one that was installed at the Golden Concert Hall in 1872 being replaced in 1907. Above the organ is written ‘Republik Osterreich’. Under the organ is ‘1 Unze Gold 999.9 2022’. At the bottom of the coin is ‘100 Euro’.
The reverse side has a collection of instruments used in the orchestra with a cello, two violins, bassoon, French horn and a harp. Above the instruments is ‘WEINER PHILHARMONIKER’.
