On the obverse of this coin is Jody Clark’s version of Queen Elizabeth II. The detail of Clark’s design really comes out in this coin where you can see the individual curls of her hair and the lines around her eyes. She looks very regal wearing a crown and dangle earrings. Arched across the top of the coin is ‘100 POUNDS’ and ‘ELIZABETH II’. Arched across the bottom of the coin is ‘D.G. REG. F.D.’ the initials for the Latin phrase ‘Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor’ which means ‘By the Grace of God, Queen and Defender of the Faith’. Below the image of the queen are the initials ‘J.C.’ for the artist ‘Jody Clark’.
The reverse of the coin features the 1st of the Tudor Beasts, the Lion of England. This is the first of the Tudor Beasts Series. The Lion is the oldest of the heraldic beasts. He has been a part of the Royal Arms for a long time. Here he is literally supporting the Royal Arms as he holds it in his paws. The best looks fierce with a crown on its head. To the left of the arms is ‘LION OF ENGLAND’. On the top of the coin is ‘1oz FINE PLATINUM 999.5’At the bottom of this side is the year of issue ‘2022’.
