The Siren Privateer 2 oz Silver Round is an homage to the Sirens found in Greek mythology and tales told about sailors. In these stories, sailors would encounter ladies who sang beautiful songs that lured sailors to an early death. This round is made with 2 oz of .999 fine silver and would make a great gift for pirates, pirate fans, or mythology fans.

Key features:

  • Made of 2 Troy ounces of .999 fine silver
  • Obverse has a skull inside a ship’s helm with rope draped around it
  • The reverse has the image of a ship near a  Siren sitting on a rock

The obverse side of the round has the image of a skull inside of a ship’s helm. Rope is draped around this steering wheel. At the top of the round is ‘NO PREY NO PAY’ which sounds like a pirate creed. If you aren’t preying on other boats then you are getting the riches. At the bottom of the round is “2 oz FINE SILVER .999’.

On the reverse side is a scene with a ship near a rock. On the rock is what looks like a mermaid on a rock. Mermaids and sirens are often depicted looking exactly the same. Mermaids are generally seen as friendly and helpful. Sirens are evil and murderous. This image is very detailed with pockmarks in the ship’s sails perhaps from cannon fire or storm damage. On the rock where the siren sits, you can make out starfish on it.

Sirens were one of the hazards early sailors had to deal with as they sailed across the ocean. Odysseus encountered them on his voyage as well. These women were described as being half woman, and half fish. In Greek mythology, when these creatures were seen in their true form, had the head of a woman and the body of a bird. All agreed on the intent of the creatures. The sirens would sing a beautiful song which was a spell of sorts that made a sailor want to swim out to the siren. If a sailor heard the song, he could not resist it. When he swam out to the siren, they were either dragged to the bottom of the ocean or eaten. The sirens were also known to lure the ships into rocky seas where their boat was torn apart and the sailors drowned.

The Siren Privateer 2 oz Silver Round is a great way to get some silver and get a great conversation piece. This would also make a great gift for a pirate, pirate fan or fan of Greek mythology. Get yours today.
