Victory stands at the center of the obverse on a Corinthian capital, wings spread wide with each feather individually cut. She holds a laurel crown overhead in her right hand and broken chains low in her left, her gown falling in deep folds around the legs. Behind her, two stepped pyramids rise on either side with braziers burning at their summits, connected by broad stone staircases. The sun stone fills the space between them, and a band of carved Aztec glyphs rings the entire composition inside a raised rim.
The reverse gives the sun stone the full field. Tonatiuh’s face occupies the center, tongue extended, framed by four rectangular day-sign panels and a ring of circular beads. Pointed rays project outward at the cardinal points, surrounded by successive bands of glyph blocks running to the rim.
