The Aztec Calendar 1 oz Silver Round Design

The design of each Aztec Calendar Round carries delicate and detailed artistry. The obverse features the infamous Aztec Calendar Stone, currently displayed in Mexico City. The design is in a circular shape, representing the sun, with its rays emanating from the center. Also pictured is the Aztec solar deity, Tonatiuh. He is seen holding a human heart in each of his clawed hands. Encircling the round are 20 symbols that represent each day of the Aztec month. Four arrows can be seen pointing north, east, south and west.  The reverse image features Tenochtitlan’s last Emperor, Cuauhtémoc. Executed in 1525 by Spanish conquistadors, Cuauhtémoc is an iconic figure in Mexican history, continually featured in banknotes, paintings, music and other cultural remembrances. Cuauhtémoc is seen wearing a traditional Aztec headdress and ear ornaments, worn by the society’s most elite. A decorative border encircles the Emperor’s regal portrait. The weight, purity and metal content are additionally engraved.
