2023 Beijing – Temple of Heaven 5 oz Silver Coin

Is it a coin or sculpture? The 2023 Beijing Temple of Heaven 5 oz Silver Coin is both. The obverse side of this coin has one side of the Temple of Heaven. This structure is thought to be the pinnacle of Chinese architecture. This structure is built entirely out of wood without using nails and stands on three levels of marvel. The original structure was finished in 1420 and stood until 1889 when it was struck by lightning and burned down. The temple was rebuilt to look exactly like the original. 

 

This side has the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to the left of the temple.  This classic design based on Rank-Broadley’s sculpture of the queen has the queen facing to the right. She is wearing a tiara on her head. The design is super detailed and you can make out the curls on her head and the lines on her face. At the top of the coin are ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘COOK ISLANDS’. At the bottom, to the right of the temple is ‘25 DOLLARS’. Behind the temple to the right is the image of a dragon.

 

On the reverse side of the coin is the other side of the temple. Above the temple is ‘BEIJING TEMPLE OF HEAVEN. At the bottom is ‘2023’. Behind the temple in the background are fireworks. 

 

The coin is flat at the bottom so you can display it standing up if you desire.
