The Perth Mint has had a tradition of producing Platinum coins with beautiful designs in limited quantities. This tradition continues in the Perth Mints Australian Lunar Series III. The Lunar Series III is minted in Gold and Silver as well but has very limited quantities in their platinum coins, 5000 pcs.

Perth’s Lunar series has always been known for portraying animals from the Chinese lunar calendar and the Lunar III series continues the tradition. This year’s animal is the tiger from China’s Year of the Tiger. On the reverse of the coin, the tiger is depicted turned facing its tail on a rock with its jaw open showing its razor sharp teeth. With great detail, the artist captured the fur and stripes that are so familiar with a tiger. To the left of the tiger, the direction he is facing, is the Chinese character for tiger. To the left of the character is a letter ‘P’, the Perth Mint’s mark.

On the obverse of the coin is Queen Elizabeth II from Jody Clark’s design. The queen is wearing her familiar crown and royal jewelry as she is portrayed as she was at age 89. This design was commissioned by the Royal Mint in 2015 and captures her regal manner. At the top left of the coin is written ‘Elizabeth II’. At the top right is ‘Australia’. The bottom left has ‘1 oz. 9995 Pt’ and the bottom right has ‘100 dollars’.

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as another Royal Mint location. Later, it became its own mint serving Australia. They have shown over the years that they have a strong foundation in the traditional style of producing coins but also have proven that they can adopt modern technology like color and gilding. Along the way, they have become a trend-setter and produced some of the best quality, sought-after coins.

Act now to get one of these very limited edition coins from a widely respected master mint with the 2022 Australian 1oz Platinum Lunar Tiger. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to own a part of this very popular series.
