The argali roam in the highlands of East Asia, Tibet, the Altai Mountains, and the Himalayas. These sheep grow to around four feet in height and seven feet long. They are adapted to high altitudes and are found up to 5800 feet. Even at these high elevations, they manage to forage for 35-42 lbs of food a day. The argali is threatened by predators like the wolves and leopards and trophy hunting. The sheep are hunted for their horns which are supposed to provide medicinal benefits. Because of this, they are considered near threatened.
On the obverse of the coin is the logo of the Mongol bank. Under the logo is ‘500 Totrog’ which is the face value and is backed by the Mongolian government. Behind the logo are argali horns. The background has a unique geometric design and hidden in the design if one looks closely they can see ‘2022’ embedded in the design.
The reverse of the coin features argali at an angle to the right. When the coin is laid on its side you can see the sheep partially poking out of the coin. Behind the sheep is another argali facing directly at the viewer.
