The 2022 1 oz Cook Islands-Circles of Life Silver coin suggests the connection we have to the wildlife around us with this unique design. By juxtaposing half of the rings of a tree and half of a human fingerprint, the message is pretty clear-we are part of a circle of life.

- Face value of 5 Dollars backed by the Cook Islands
- Obverse side has the image of Queen Elizabeth II
- The reverse side has design with half of tree rings and half of human fingerprint
The idea of the Circle of Life, while not a new idea, was made popular by the Disney animated film, The Lion King. In it, the father lion, Mufasa, explains to his son, Simba that they and by extension, we, are a part of a circle of life. When we die we become the vegetation that the animals eat. Then others eat the animals and the circle continues. This coin illustrates this point with a design on the reverse side that has half of the rings of a tree and half of a human fingerprint. At the top it says Circles of Life. There is a kind of double meaning here as we are part of the Circle of Life but also the rings of a tree are built over the life of the tree while our fingerprints are formed throughout our life. Also, no two sets of tree rings are the same as no two fingerprints are the same. At the bottom of this side is ‘2022’.
On the obverse is a small version of Ian Rank-Broadley’s classic depiction of Elizabeth II. Here she is facing to the right with a look of determination on her face. She is wearing a crown and the Royal Jewelry. To the left of her is Elizabeth II. Above her head is ‘5 DOLLARS’. To the right of her is ‘COOK ISLANDS’.
