When it comes to the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, you don’t really get to know any of the merry men except Little John. He is second in command and is one of the oldest characters in the story and yet little is known about him. One thing is for certain, though, Robin trusts him and Little John is loyal to him. 

The obverse side of this coin has the image of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark in 2015. Here she is shown as she looked at age 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. Above her head at the top left is ‘2 DOLLARS’. At the top right of the coin is ‘ELIZABETH II’. Around the bottom are the initials ‘D. G. REG. F.D.’ which are initials for the Latin phrase, ‘Dei gratia regina. Fidei defensor’ which means ‘By the grace of God, queen. Defender of the faith.’ 

On the reverse side of the coin is the image of Little John, standing like he is ready for anything. He looks strong and determined standing in Sherwood Forest holding a staff across his body in a defensive stance. As the story goes Little John was used more tongue-in-cheek as he was actually quite tall with some accounts saying he was seven feet tall. It is also said that his preferred weapon was the quarterstaff. Arched above him is ‘LITTLE JOHN 1 oz FINE GOLD 9999 2022’.
