When Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the British throne, her coronation was a major historical event. To commemorate the occasion, revered sculptor James Woodford crafted a series of ten unique sculptures. Each of the ‘Queen’s Beasts’ represented a portion of Queen Elizabeth II’s genealogy, which granted her the God-given right to the throne of England. Since their debut at the Royal Palace in 1953, the Queen’s Beasts have been a beloved part of British royal lore and history.

Today, the British Royal Mint continues its long tradition of celebrating the Queen’s Beasts with yet another addition to the brilliant series of Queen’s Beasts silver coins. The latest addition is the 2021 2 Oz British Silver Queen’s Beast White Greyhound Coin. Collectors with an interest in the Royal Mint and the history of the British Empire can complete their collection with this coin, which depicts the White Greyhound and is the last in the Queen’s Beasts series.

This animal has functioned as a symbol for the Earl of Richmond for over six-hundred years, when it was used by Edmund Richmond to signify his house’s support for King Henry VII. Today, the symbol is one of the ten Queen’s Beasts, which stand to symbolize the Queen’s lineage and support by noble houses throughout England.

Aside from its obvious value as a store of silver, this particular coin is actually the last in the series of ten coins in the Queen’s Beasts collection. This collection is nearly five years old now, and bullion enthusiasts have eagerly awaited the release of its concluding coins for the past year.
