The Austrian Mint has had over 825 years of experience and since 1988 has operated as a private company. They are the sole source for minting the Republic of Austria’s euro coins for circulation. They’re also responsible for making some of the world’s best-selling bullion coins. The Austrian Silver Philharmonic Coin is one of those coins. First introduced as a gold coin in 1989, it quickly became very popular. In 2008, the mint introduced the coin in silver and the popularity of the coin really grew. It grew further still when in 2016 they released the coin in platinum.

All the Austrian Mints Philharmonic coins honor the legacy of the very popular Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Founded in 1942, it is one of the oldest orchestras in the world and is respected and appreciated all over the world. The coin’s design features a tribute to the great organ and the orchestra’s instrumentation.  The popularity of the orchestra combined with a coin beautifully struck in .999 fine silver definitely contributes to the popularity of this coin.
