The Reverse of the coin features the coin’s namesake, the Australian Kookaburra bird. This year’s design captures a mother Kookaburra and her chick on the ground. To the right of the smaller bird’s tale is the letter ‘P’, the mark of the Perth Mint.

The Perth Mint is considered one of the most trusted mints in the world going back to 1899 when it was first founded. The mint started as another location for the Royal Mint in England but later became Australia’s own mint. This mint with its wealth of experience has shown that they are masters of the traditional production of coins but have also shown the world that they can set trends with modern techniques like the use of color and gilding.
