The HMS Bounty is the site of the most famous mutiny in maritime history. Here the crew, led by Fletcher Christian, mutinied against their captain, Captain William Bligh. This story was the inspiration for a motion picture that featured memorable performances by Marlon Brando and Richard Harris. Many are drawn to the story that points out the foibles of man, the intricacies of governing a group of men at sea, and the fragility of a captain’s command. After the mutiny, Captain William Bligh found the mutineers and took them into custody.

On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley’s classic depiction of Elizabeth II. Here she is facing to the right with a look of determination on her face. She is wearing a crown and the Royal Jewelry. Above her head is ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘COOK ISLANDS”. Below her image is ‘2009’.

On the reverse is the HMS Bounty in all her majesty. One can appreciate the detail of the ship and its riggings. This was a fast sailing ship. Above the ship is ‘30 DOLLARS’ At the bottom edge of the coin is ‘1 KILO  FINE Silver .9999’. The background is a swirly grid with a matte finish that makes the ship in shiny silver really pop.
