Ahead of the Montreal Olympics the Royal Canadian Mint released twenty eight coins of $10 and $5 denominations from 1973-1976. The sale of these coins was to raise money to fund the venture. The designs feature famous places around Montreal, Olympic events, and elements honoring the Olympics. The actual design you receive depends on the stock on hand.

 

On the obverse side of this coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II as she appeared at age 37. She is wearing a tiara and looking to the right. Below her is ‘ELIZABETH II CANADA 1976”

 

The reverse side has a design honoring the Montreal Olympics. Designs include images of events, and key places in Montreal as well as elements that pay homage to the history of the Olympics. At the top right is ‘Olympiade XXI Olympiad’. To the left of the image is ‘Montreal 1976’. At the bottom is ‘10 Dollars’.
