The Canadian Silver Dollar coins from 1971-1991 are popular for the fact that they are 50% silver. This means each coin contains .375 oz of actual silver. The designs varied over the years but the silver content was the same. The coin you receive will be from a random year and is in random condition from uncirculated to proof quality depending on our stock on hand.

Key features:

  • Each coin contains .375 oz actual silver
  • Obverse side has an image of Elizabeth II
  • The reverse side has a variety of different designs that differ every year
  • Face value of 1 dollar backed by the Canadian Government
  • Actual date of the coin and condition (from uncirculated to proof) is dependent on stock on hand.

The obverse side of the Canadian Silver Dollar from 1971-1991 has the image of Queen Elizabeth. From 1971-1990 the Arnold Machin design was used where the queen is shown at age 37 wearing a tiara and facing to the right. This design was replaced by Dora de Pédery-Hunt’s design where the queen is facing to the right and is shown at age 64. Both designs have ‘Elizabeth II’ to the left of her image and ‘D.G. Regina’ to the right.

On the reverse side of the round are a variety of different designs celebrating the territories of Canada.

Investors like to buy silver to hedge against inflation. Silver has a lower price point than gold so you can buy more of it and it is more affordable to more people. Savvy investors know that you want quality silver in a form that is easily stored. Silver bars are convenient because you can put them inside of a cabinet or lock them away in a safe because they stack easily. With coins, you can stack them but they can fall over and make a mess all over.

The 1971-1991 Canadian 50% Silver Dollar coin offers another option to buy silver at a lower price point than 1 oz silver coins as these coins are 50% silver. These are beautifully designed coins and would look great in your collection. Get yours today.
