The obverse side of the coin features the image of two of Mexico’s greatest heroes, Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and Francisco Madero. Costilla, formerly a pastor, was the leader of a group of civilians that fought in the Mexican War for Independence. He became a martyr for the people as he was executed by firing squad. Madero was an activist who helped to kickstart the revolution. He orchestrated the overthrow of the dictator, Porfirio Díaz The image here is a profile of him facing to the left. Above his image is ‘INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD’. Below the image to the left is ‘DIEZ PESOS’. Underneath the image on the right side is an ‘M’, the mint mark for the Banco de Mexico. Near the mint mark is the year the coin was issued.
On the reverse side of the coin is Mexico’s National Coat of Arms. This image recreates the scene the Aztecs came upon where they witnessed a Mexican Gold Eagle with a rattlesnake in its mouth. They believed this was a sign that told them this was where they needed to build their great city. That city became Mexico City. Here is the eagle standing on a cactus using its beak and claws to subdue the snake. Above the image is ‘ESTRADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS’ which means the United States of Mexico.

Hefty Mexican 🪙 Silver! Can’t go wrong with it. Nearly BU, but slightly dinged & scratched from prior owners playing with it or keeping it in sacks. Happy to expand my Mexican Silver, and happier with HB’s prices. Recommended.
